Course on Leather-Tanning Craft to Be Offered at North Campus
Thursday, April 29, 2004
The age-old process of producing true buckskin from deer hides using primitive methods and materials will be revealed to participants in a noncredit course being offered May 20 to June 24 at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro.
Classes will be held outside on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Instructor Ed Wentzler will lead the class in this safe and natural process, which requires only physical effort and patience.
Wentzler will demonstrate all facets of the operation from obtaining a hide properly and safely to producing finished buckskin. Making buckskin is a primary survival skill that results in a satisfying project, and it can be a stepping stone to other survival studies.
All tools and deer hides are provided for the seminar; written materials and references will be recommended. Participants should wear work clothes. The North Campus is located on Route 6 between Wellsboro and Mansfield.
The cost for the class, which is being offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, is $99. To receive more information or to register, call (570) 724-7703.
