'Cat Tales Baseball In sweeping Penn State-Scranton, the Wildcats had everything going. Robert Petrosky (Jersey Shore) went 2-for-4 at the plate and John Vitovsky (Western Wayne) 2-for-5 in a Game 1 win, then Vitovsky tossed a no-hitter, striking out nine, in Game 2. Providing the offensive punch in the second game were Chris Faerber (Newport), who went 3-for-3 including a grand-slam home run and four RBI; Mike Daciw (Sun Valley), who was 3-for-4; and Ted Kirner (Central Bucks West), who was 2-for-3.
Softball Rachel Sledzinsky (Wayne) had the hot bat for Penn College against Northampton, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, but it wasn't enough to keep the Lady Wildcats from being swept. Kristen Proctor (State College) also had two doubles for Penn College. A late-week sweep of Penn State-Hazleton completed a 2-2 week for the Lady Wildcats. Sledzinsky was tough at the plate again, going 4-for-8 with two triples in the twin bill while Proctor homered and Danielle Hubler (West Branch) was 2-for-4 in the first game. In the nightcap, Jennifer Racho (Hazleton) 2-for-3 with a double and triple.
Tennis Squaring off against last year's league and association champ Harrisburg, the Wildcats used four wins by default to secure their victory and stay unbeaten.
Men's Volleyball Competing in a five-team event at University Park, Penn College went 12-1 in matches to finish first for the second time in three outings this season. In addition to fine all-around play by the entire team, coach Wes Strayer had special praise for Gregg Stoneham (Hunterdon Central, N.J.) for "really stepping it up. ... He put on a blocking clinic. ... He came alive."
