Practical Nursing Program at North Campus to Host Open House
Tuesday, April 6, 2004
Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will host an open house on Thursday, April 29, for those considering nursing as a career.
The 5 to 7 p.m. event will feature tours of the campus (located just east of Wellsboro on Route 6), opportunities to speak with current students and faculty, as well as information about the application process, tuition and financial aid. Information about programs of study at Penn College's main campus in Williamsport also will be available.
Currently, 14 students are attending classes in Practical Nursing at the North Campus. The noncredit program was developed for learners of all ages who want to improve their employment outlook. The students have one goal in common at the completion of the yearlong training program: to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The Practical Nursing program is offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College. Students attend classes at the North Campus and have clinical experiences at Laurel Health System facilities. Excellent career opportunities exist with area hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, personal-care facilities and human-service organizations.
"Developing a program that will relieve the nursing shortage in our region has been a cooperative effort between Penn College and Laurel Health System," noted Brenda G. Abplanalp, director of North Campus outreach services.
The North Campus program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared to take the National Council Licensure Exam for licensure as an LPN.
Advanced placement credits earned upon passing the exam may be applied toward the Nursing degrees offered at Penn College's main campus.
The next Practical Nursing class at the North Campus is scheduled to begin Jan 3, 2005. For more information, call (570) 724-7703.
