Noncredit 'Woodworking 101' Course to Be Offered at College

Novices can acquire the fundamental skills and knowledge of the craft of woodworking by enrolling in the noncredit "Woodworking 101" course being offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Classes for the course will meet from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 18 to June 3, at the Carl Building Technologies Center on the main campus in Williamsport.
Previous experience is welcomed, but not required. Through the creation of a small medicine cabinet (or storage cabinet) with a raised-panel door, face frame and moulding details, participants will learn the fundamentals of design and the nature of wood.
They will also learn basic skills in the use of layout tools, hand tools and woodworking machinery including (but not limited to) jointers, table saws, planers, shapers, moulders and miter saws. Various joinery techniques and options will be presented, and tool safety will be emphasized at all times.
Cost for the course is $375, including all necessary materials.
