Board Renews Registration for Financial-Planning Offerings
Thursday, February 19, 2004
A national professional regulatory organization has renewed the registration of Pennsylvania College of Technology's bachelor-degree minor and competency credential in Financial Planning for five years each.
The renewed registration from the Board of Examiners of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. will run until Jan. 31, 2009.
The renewal follows the submission of an extensive program review and self-study prepared last fall. The process involved faculty, staff and students from the College's School of Business and Computer Technologies, as well as industry representatives.
The CFP certification is the most widely recognized financial-planning designation. CFP certificants have comprehensive educational training. They must pass a 10-hour certification exam and have at least three years' experience to qualify. Penn College's competency credential and minor in Financial Planning prepare students to sit for this rigorous two-day exam.
Founded in 1985, the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. fosters professional standards in personal financial planning and acts as an independent certifying body. The CFP board establishes and enforces education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for all CFP certificants.
The growth of the financial-planning profession and the demand for more financial-planning training and education led Penn College to begin offering the Financial Planning program in the mid-1990s.
