Thursday, January 8, 2004
Adults considering a career change can receive free help courtesy of the "Project Choice" program at Pennsylvania College of Technology, which will offer a new evening session next month.
The session, which will run from Feb. 2-12, will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday (no sessions are held on Fridays).
Project Choice, which is offered through the Counseling and Career Services Office at Penn College, provides comprehensive career-exploration assistance for those wishing to forge a new career path.
The program is part of the state Department of Labor and Industry's "Rapid Response" initiative, an early-intervention service assisting workers and employers affected by layoffs, plant closures or natural disasters. Project Choice is funded under the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Technical Education Act of 1998, through the Bureau of Career and Technical Education, Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Project Choice provides an assessment of skills, abilities and personality style; structured career exploration and career-goal planning; workshops on goal-setting, prioritizing, decision-making, stress management, self-esteem and removing roadblocks; and information on training, education, financial aid and support services.
