Pennsylvania College of Technology students received three of the four David I. Coren Memorial Scholarships awarded for the 2003-04 academic year by the Electrical Generating Systems Association.
To be eligible for the $2,000 merit-based scholarships, students must be enrolled in a course of study related to on-site power generation and planning to seek employment in the industry after completing their education.
The Penn College students receiving the scholarships are: Joseph A. Duskasky, Wapwallopen; Marc F. Schoendorf, Newington, Conn.; and Matthew J. Strine, York.
Duskasky is pursuing an associate's degree in Electric Power Generation Technology. He is also employed as a technician at Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. and has been selected to be a Penn College representative at the Power-Gen International 2003 trade show Dec. 9-11 in Las Vegas.
Schoendorf is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Technology Management via Distance Learning. He received an associate's degree in Electric Power Generation Technology from the College in May. Schoendorf also received the Lewis H. Bardo Memorial Award and the CAT Excellence Award at that time. He was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society in 2002. He also served as a tutor while at the College, and he attended EGSA's On-Site Power Generation School in Orlando, Fla.
Strine is pursuing an associate's degree in Electric Power Generation Technology. He is also employed as a generator technician apprentice at Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. and has been selected to be a Penn College representative at the Power-Gen International 2003 trade show.
Founded in 1965, the Electrical Generating Systems Association has nearly 600 member companies in the United States and throughout the world that make, sell, distribute and service on-site power equipment. The association serves as a source of information, education and training; conducts meetings and industry trade shows; and develops performance standards for on-site power technology.
