Pennsylvania College of Technology claimed its 13th All-American archer following national outdoor competition last week at Carbondale, Ill. And, as a team, the Wildcats placed third, their highest finish ever.
Ryan Romberger (Upper Dauphin) added his name to the College's "wall of fame" as an All-American, thanks to his fourth-place finish in the male compound event earlier this season at the indoor nationals and a seventh last week.
"Ryan kind of surprised me this year. Last year, he only went to the first two indoor events. He practiced all summer and came back this spring shooting really well. He put a lot of time into it and it paid off at the end," Wildcat Coach Chad Karstetter said.
"For the overall team, everything went pretty good. This was the first year that we had a female compound team go to nationals and compete and its third-place finish helped us out a lot," the third-year coach continued.
Members of the women's compound team were Pam White (Turbotville), Karen Morse (Canton) and Leslie Weaver (Allenwood). Also contributing to the College's overall third were fourth-place finishes by the Wildcat male compound team of Matt Frye (Muncy), Harry Bauman (Lock Haven), Jon Mattivi (Southern Columbia), Chad Groff (West Perry), Adam Milcoff (Spring Grove) and Romberger, the male recurve team of Aaron Holdren (Athens), Robert McIntosh (Lockport, N.Y.) and T.J. Sico (Andover, Mass.) and a third place in mixed compound, which combined the scores of Romberger, Frye, Weaver and Morse.
Reflecting on the season, Karstetter said, "One of my goals this year was to move up at least one more spot. Now, we're right behind Texas A&M and James Madison, the big-name schools. I hope that, next year, we can put together a female recurve team and maybe give those two a run for their money."
