Fourth Annual International Week Gets Under Way March 27

The Fourth Annual International Week, a celebration of cultures from around the world, will be held March 27 to April 4 at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The highlight of the week's festivities which are being sponsored by the International Programs Office at Penn College will be an International Bazaar on April 2 with more than a dozen presentations and demonstrations on countries from around the world and cuisine from eight countries.
Other activities planned for the week include screenings of movies, Japanese anime video, a storytelling session for youngsters, library exhibits, a global trivia game, photo displays, a raffle with more than 50 prizes, and a chance to sample food and beverages from various countries.
The International Bazaar will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bush Campus Center and will include exhibits and international cuisine from Africa, Chile, China, Ecuador, France, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Presentations and demonstrations will be offered on: Japanese Anime; Japanese Origami; Korean Calligraphy; Experiencing Australia; Building in the Dominican Republic; The Romantic Road: Wuerzburg-Germany; Art History in Italy; The Toluca Exchange-Mexico; An American Perspective on the Middle East; Trekking in Nepal, Red Sea Diving; India; Japan; and Slovenia. There will be a panel discussion on media, featuring international students at Penn College.
The Wildcat Dance Team will demonstrate African rhythms, Swing and Latin dance, and native Koreans will perform traditional Korean dance. An interactive drum circle will be offered, as well as songs from Africa, China, Germany and Korea.
On March 27, a symposium at Penn's Inn in the Campus Center will feature a panel discussion addressing the local, national and international implications of the consumer-fraud crime, identity theft. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public. Panel members include Penn College staff and students and a professional expert from the community.
On April 1, a storytelling session for 3- to 5-year-olds will be offered at Penn's Inn from 11 a.m. to noon.
The movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" will be shown at various times during the week at Penn's Inn, and the film "Like Water for Chocolate" will be presented at 7 p.m. on April 3 at the Klump Academic Center Auditorium. At 7 p.m. on April 1, the Japanese anime video, "Oh My Goddess" will be shown at the Academic Center auditorium.
"Global Concoctions to Sip and Savor" will be offered from 5 to 6 p.m. on March 31 at the Penn College Library, located in the Learning Resources Center. Library exhibits will include photo displays/albums of students and faculty who have studied and traveled overseas, as well as a display of clothing from around the world.
A photo collection of countries "Where in the World Is This?" will be displayed at the Campus Center, and a prize will be awarded to anyone guessing the location of all the photos. Contestants may also test their international IQ and win prizes in a Global Trivia contest.
All week long, international desserts will be offered at the Susquehanna Room and Penn Central dining units and at the Wildcat Express convenience store. The College's fine-dining restaurant, Le Jeune Chef, will offer special Asian, African and Indian specials throughout the week. Call 327-4776 to make reservations.
