The Technology Transfer Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer a series of seven hatha yoga asana practice sessions Nov. 26 through Dec. 19.
The free sessions, which will be held on the stage of the Klump Academic Center auditorium, will be offered from 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, 10, 12, 17 and 19. The session on Saturday, Dec. 14, will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
The sessions are being offered at no cost so that regular practitioners may continue to practice and new students may explore hatha yoga asana in a structured setting. Regularly scheduled hatha yoga classes for beginning and advanced students are scheduled to start in January. The cost for those six-week sessions is $40.
The free classes being offered through Dec. 19 will provide a regular intensive hatha yoga practice for those with less than two or three years of yoga experience. Some previous yoga experience is desirable. Though this is not an introductory class, beginners may register, and they will be given individual attention as needed. The sessions will include a review of the fundamental asana (posture) and a general asana practice and deep relaxation.
The focus of the sessions will be to examine asana practice as it relates to posture, balance, flexibility, strength, skeletal and muscular integrity, health benefits, relieving tension and the restorative qualities of yoga asana. This general practice will include standing poses; abdominal strengthening and energizing; seated, prone and supine poses; backward bends; forward bends; twists; restorative postures; deep relaxation; breathing practices (pranayama); and meditation. To register for these free sessions call the TTC at (570) 327-4775.
