Landscape/Nursery Technology Program Accredited by ALCA
Tuesday, November 12, 2002
The Associated Landscape Contractors of America granted accreditation recently to the Landscape/Nursery Technology program at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
ALCA recognizes schools that have landscape-contracting curricula that meet or exceed industry standards. The prestigious accreditation offers scholarships to students, continuing-education opportunities for faculty development, and a wealth of online and printed resource materials.
The ALCA evaluation team, consisting of Scott Hall, Classic Landscaping Inc.; Landon Reeves, Chapel Valley Landscape Co.; David Wigfield, Still Waters Ground Maintenance; and Bill Thorton, ALCA site coordinator, visited Penn College's School of Natural Resources Management on Nov. 7-8.
Team members spent the two days touring the campus; interviewing students, alumni, faculty and industry leaders; and reviewing the curriculum of the Landscape/Nursery Technology program.
On Nov. 8, the team conducted an exit interview, at which time it praised the faculty for an excellent program and the College for its commitment to the future. Recommendations included adding a student representative to the program advisory board and creating a formal internship.
"We are pleased that ALCA has recognized the quality of our Landscape/Nursery Technology curriculum, faculty and facilities," said Dr. Mary A. Sullivan, assistant dean of the School of Natural Resources Management. "The accreditation has created additional educational opportunities for students and faculty, which will result in overall program enhancement."
