The real-life heroine of "Riding in Cars With Boys," a cult-classic novel that spawned a 2001 Drew Barrymore film, will discuss her life, faith and "never letting go of her dreams" when she appears at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Klump Academic Center Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Beverly Donofrio went from a self-proclaimed "bad girl" to a master's recipient at Columbia University, and will discuss that journey in a lecture entitled, "From Memoir to Hollywood Movie and How Faith Intervened." Her appearance, part of the Student Activities Office's Fall 2002 Lecture Series, is open to the public.
Admission is free, but tickets available at the Bush Campus Center information desk are required. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m.
The author will sign books following her presentation; copies will be available for sale by the Penn College bookstore at the lecture. In anticipation of Donofrio's lecture, the College's Student Activities Office will show the movie at 8 p.m. Sunday and at 2 and 8 p.m. Monday.
Other events in the lecture series will include:
- "Does God Exist?" a debate between a California philosophy professor and the publisher of Skeptic magazine, scheduled for 8 p.m. Oct. 1
- "The Wizards of Weird" an interactive multimedia look at the "weird, the bizarre and the unexplained," set for 8 p.m. Oct. 29
- "Sex, Power and the Media" a former supermodel confronts issues of corporate ownership, gender, violence and sexual intimacy, to be presented at 8 p.m. Nov. 19
