Pennsylvania College of Technology golf coach Chet Schuman lost everyone from last year's team, which posted an 18-7 record.
But, despite the loss of key players like Josh Wells of DuBois and Bryan Vertigan of Emmaus both of whom earned all-Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference North Division honors Schuman has even higher hopes for his third edition, which steps into action Friday at Stonehedge.
"These guys can shoot the lights out. . . . They're here to take care of business. . . . We could be much better than last year," the coach said.
Players on whom Schuman is pinning his prediction are freshmen Matt Haile and Kyle Renn, both products of Shikellamy High School; Christian Scheller (North Pocono), and Brandon Gosciminski (Southern Columbia).
"They're par shooters," said Schuman, who gave credit to the skill the players have developed to the high school programs for which they performed.
Up to six players compete in each EPCC match, with the low four scores used to determine team-score action. In each outing during the regular season, as many as six teams will participate.
