W.T.I. Alumnus Establishes Endowed Scholarship at Penn College
Thursday, July 25, 2002
The success of alumni of a Pennsylvania College of Technology predecessor institution, Williamsport Technical Institute, soon will mean a great deal to Penn College students starting their own paths to success.
The Office of Institutional Advancement at Penn College has announced the establishment of the "Alumni of Williamsport Technical Institute Endowed Scholarship Fund," which is being built upon an initial contribution from 1965 W.T.I. graduate David W. Conklin of Montoursville.
Conklin, president of C&I Boiler Repair Inc. of Montoursville, said he wants to ensure that Penn College students who need scholarship dollars are helped, and he wants to give other W.T.I. alumni a way in which they can show their support, as well.
Penn College got its start as a postsecondary institution with the establishment of Williamsport Technical Institute in 1941. The institution became Williamsport Area Community College in 1965 and became Pennsylvania College of Technology, a special-mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University, in 1989.
Conklin was named Penn College's Outstanding Alumnus in 2001. At the second annual W.T.I. reunion at Penn College in June, Conklin spoke to other W.T.I. alumni about his commitment to the College's future, telling them the Alumni of Williamsport Technical Institute Endowed Scholarship Fund is a great way to demonstrate appreciation for all the help they received both academically and financially while they were students at W.T.I.
Awards from this new scholarship fund will be made annually, starting in 2003. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic quality and demonstrated financial need.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the Alumni of Williamsport Technical Institute Endowed Scholarship Fund may send donations to the Penn College Foundation, One College Avenue, Williamsport, PA, 17701-5799.
Please include a note directing the gift to the scholarship fund. Gifts also may be made online, using a credit card.
