College Acquires State-of-the-Art Equipment for Plastics Programs
Wednesday, July 10, 2002
Students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's nationally recognized Plastics and Polymer Technology programs will continue learning at the leading edge of technology, thanks to the generosity of several major companies.
Penn College has acquired a polymer extrusion gear pump system to install on existing laboratory equipment. The system is a vital component in the production of a wide variety of extruded polymer products, such as carpet and textile fibers, delicate films, wire jacketing and medical tubing.
The extrusion lab for the College's Plastics and Polymer Technology programs already contained the important components of most extrusion lines, and the recent addition of the polymer extrusion gear pump system will enhance the offerings of the Polymer Processing Survey, Extrusion, and Advanced Polymer Processing courses.
More than 75 students annually will be able to use the new equipment to test and verify fundamental principles taught in the classroom and laboratory, making them more productive employees when they enter the workforce.
The College's acquisition of the polymer extrusion gear pump system was made possible by donations from PPL Electric Utilities, West Pharmaceutical Services, Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products and Alcan Cable.
Penn College is one of just a handful of colleges in the United States to offer Plastics and Polymer Technology programs accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).
The College offers a bachelor's degree in Plastics and Polymer Engineering Technology and an associate's degree in Plastics and Polymer Technology.
