A scholarship has been established that honors a previous director of the Physician Assistant program at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The Russell M. Trapp Memorial Scholarship will be offered annually beginning this fall to a full-time student in the Physician Assistant major in Penn College's School of Health Sciences.
The scholarship has been established in Trapp's name by friends, family and employees at Penn College.
"The Russ Trapp Memorial Scholarship is a wonderful way to foster the continuing legacy of such a wonderful man," said Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour. "Russ set the bar very high as an ideal person. He was the consummate professional, a compassionate husband and a loving father. If you were fortunate enough to have him touch your life, you will be forever blessed."
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5. Students must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA to continue receiving the scholarship award in subsequent years.
The Physician Assistant Club, a student organization at Penn College, sponsors a golf tournament each June to raise money for the scholarship fund.
In addition, a good friend in Huntingdon, Dr. Richard Prough, supports the fund by holding a "Summer Fest" fund-raising event each June. Over the past three years, the Summer Fest has raised more than $6,000 for the fund.
