Pennsylvania College of Technology students won three first-place and three second-place medals at the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Timber Sports Annual Woodsman Meet, held March 31 at Clifton Forge, Va.
At the event, hosted by Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Penn College finished third overall. With one exception, all of the Penn College students are enrolled in the Forest Technology major in the School of Natural Resources Management.
Other teams competing in the meet were Penn State-Mont Alto; Haywood Community College, Clyre, Va.; Montgomery Community College, Troy, N.C.; and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
One Penn College student won two first-place awards in the individual competitions. Justin L. Mease, Elizabethtown, won top honors in the horizontal speed chop and the ax throw.
Penn College won the team pulp toss competition. Participants on that team were: Donna L. Berry, Jersey Shore (a General Studies student); Kelly Jo Griffis, Cogan Station; Gerald L. Hoy, Port Matilda; Timothy J. Kline, Avis; Nicholas T. Nebzydoski, Pleasant Mount; and Mark E. Stoetzel, South Williamsport.
Second-place honors in the individual competitions went to Ashley L. Huther, Williamsport, women's chain saw; and Berry, women's horizontal speed chop.
Penn College captured second place in the team log roll. Team members were: Berry; Hoy; Christine A. Lucas; Mease; Stoetzel; and Matthew W. Williams, Atlantic.
Penn College finished third overall in the meet. Other students participating for the College were: Benn E. Carlson, Galeton; Ty M. Crawley, Montgomery; and Sabrina R. Thompson, Huntingdon.
