Pennsylvania College of Technology was named "School of the Year" recently by the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls.
Penn College prevailed over three other nominees − the University of Delaware, Kutztown University and LaSalle University − for the award. CAACURH represents residence-hall students at more than 60 member schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Washington D.C., offering a wide variety of leadership opportunities and resources.
At a CAACURH conference hosted by the University of Delaware, Joseph M. Tertel Jr. and Jesse R. Viani, students from the Penn College Residence Hall Association, presented a bid for the award, delivering an oral presentation to complement a report written by various members of the RHA. The report described the accomplishments of Residence Life organizations at Penn College, showcasing programming, facilities and student/professional leadership.
Tertel, of Frackville, is a student in the bachelor-degree Graphic Design major. Viani, of Wellsville, is enrolled in the bachelor-degree Computer Information Technology-Data Communications Concentration major.
Student representatives from each of the member schools determined the award winner. Penn College was presented with the honor on Saturday, Feb. 24.
As a regional winner, the College will compete for the national title at the National Association of College and University Residence Halls National Conference on May 23-27 at the University of Southern California.
