College's March 25 Open House Offers Something for All

Campus tours, helpful information sessions and a variety of fun activities await participants in the annual spring Open House event planned for Sunday, March 25, at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Demonstrations and displays will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and general-information sessions for future students will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities are planned at Penn College's main campus in Williamsport, the Lumley Aviation Center at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville, the Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood, the Advanced Automotive Technology Center in Logue Industrial Park in Williamsport and the North Campus near Wellsboro.
For prospective students planning to enroll for Fall 2001, general-information sessions addressing admissions, academics, financial aid and other topics will be offered at Penn's Inn in the Bush Campus Center on the half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For students planning to enroll in 2002 or later, information sessions will be offered at the Klump Academic Center auditorium on the hour from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. Student Ambassadors will conduct tours of the main campus immediately after each session.
Tours of campus student housing, and the opportunity to meet landlords who provide housing for students in the community, also will be offered.
Information on each of the College's eight academic schools − Business and Computer Technologies, Construction and Design Technologies, Health Sciences, Hospitality, Industrial and Engineering Technologies, Integrated Studies, Natural Resources Management and Transportation Technology − will be available in Bardo Gymnasium beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Students who are unsure about their major may visit Counseling and Career Services in the Campus Center, Room 204 (noon to 3 p.m.), or in the Learning Resources Center, Room 154 (from noon to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.).
Alumni of Penn College, Williamsport Area Community College and Williamsport Technical Institute are encouraged to register at the Thompson Professional Development Center on the main campus or at the library at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center. A President's Reception for alumni and the community will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the College Library, located in the Learning Resources Center on the main campus.
Current students, faculty and staff will be on hand throughout Open House, providing displays and demonstrations in their fields of study and offering information about student organizations, athletics and activities. Student organizations will offer food and other items for sale to raise funds for their treasuries and charities. In addition, Le Jeune Chef and all campus Food Services operations will serve food and beverages (reservations are required for brunch in Le Jeune Chef).
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the stars of the "You're the Chef" cooking series. The PBS series feature's Penn College's Chef Paul Mach and Tom Speicher.
The general public is welcome at the annual event. Friends and visitors of all ages are encouraged to take part in the activities and learn why Penn College is such an important part of the local community.
Other highlights on the main campus include art and photo exhibitions, a "Pro-Am Keyboarding Tournament" open to visitors, a "Science Discovery Area" for kids in the Children's Learning Center, health screenings and International Students' presentation of "The Arabian Connection" (for full details of the events, pick up an Activities Guide when you arrive on campus for Open House).
Visitors to the Lumley Aviation Center can see various aircraft used in instruction, including an A-6 Intruder, a Sabreliner jet, a Turbo Commander and a Velocity. At the Earth Science Center, visitors can watch the annual Heavy Equipment Rodeo − in which Pennsylvania and New York schools vie for prizes − and get a head start on the gardening season with plants and tips from the Greenhouse. Shuttle-bus transportation will be provided to and from both campuses.
Guests interested in motorsports, racing and related fields will enjoy demonstrations at the Advanced Automotive Technology Center on Wahoo Drive.
In addition, an Open House special reception for visitors, guests, alumni, employees and friends will be held at the North Campus at 4 p.m. That campus will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Free bus transportation to Penn College will be offered from Elmira, N.Y., (the bus also stops at the North Campus); Lancaster-Harrisburg; and Altoona-State College. Passengers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
