The North Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association recently provided a gift of $1,000 to Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The chapter, which includes Bradford, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties, represents trucking firms that hire many graduates from the Diesel Technology programs at Penn College.
The association presented the check to Dennis L. Correll, the College's associate dean for institutional advancement, at a recent board meeting. The board also voted to provide $2,000 annually toward a scholarship for Diesel Technology and Diesel Technician students, beginning in the fall of 2001. The association has lauded the College's efforts to provide hands-on training and education to meet the needs of the trucking industry today and in the future.
"It is always a pleasure to provide community groups and associations with an insight into the activities of Penn College and its students," said Correll, who apprised the board of scholarship-program opportunities. "A partnership with PMTA is a perfect match for Penn College because of the excellent employment opportunities it represents for our graduates."
Founded in 1928, the PMTA promotes the business interests of the motor-transportation industry, representing its concerns to members, lawmakers, regulatory agencies and the public. The association helps companies cope with industry changes while enhancing members' opportunities for professional and economic growth .
