Two outstanding students in the Heavy Construction Equipment Technology programs in the School of Natural Resources Management at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been presented with the "Operator of the Year" and the "Mechanic of the Year" awards.
Bennett J. Floyd, of Spencerport, N.Y., received the "Operator of the Year Award." He is a student in the Heavy Construction Equipment Technology associate-degree program. Stephen E. Grenoble, of Pine Grove Mills, received the "Mechanic of the Year Award." He is a student in the Heavy Construction Equipment Technology/CAT Emphasis associate-degree program.
The students were selected for the honors by the Heavy Equipment Advisory Board at Penn College. The "Operator of the Year Award" is given to a student who demonstrates mechanical ability and professionalism, among other qualities, said Scott B. Appleman, instructor of diesel equipment technology. The "Mechanic of the Year Award" is given to a student who shows the most improvement in Heavy Equipment operations, said Benjamin H. Eldred, assistant professor of diesel equipment technology.
Floyd's career goal is to become a professional heavy-equipment operator. Grenoble's career objective is to become a troubleshooting technician, service manager or sales-and-service representative.
