Six Pennsylvania College of Technology students have won scholarship awards totaling $7,786 from the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation, and one of the six also has received a $1,000 scholarship from the Web Offset Association.
The Penn College students who received the PGSF scholarship awards were chosen from an applicant pool of 1,000 students at 141 accredited schools throughout the United States.
Since its inception in 1956, the PGSF, formerly known as the National Scholarship Trust Fund of the Graphic Arts, has helped more than 6,000 students further their education in the graphic arts through scholarships and graduate fellowships. The Sewickley-based nonprofit organization, affiliated with the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, is dedicated to strengthening the print and graphics industry by providing scholarship assistance.
The Penn College PGSF scholarship recipients are: Christopher J. Legarski, Graphic Design, Montoursville ($2,586); Kylie M. Benner, Printing and Publishing Technology, Centre Hall ($1,500); Beth L. Rozman, Graphic Design, Lititz ($1,200); Karin L. McCrea, Printing and Publishing Technology, Elizabethtown ($1,000); Lisa M. Myers, Graphic Design, Hanover ($1,000); and James A. Gish, Printing and Publishing Technology, Manheim ($500).
McCrea also received the scholarship from WOA, a special industry group of Printing Industries of America. WOA established its scholarship awards in order to recruit talented young people into the graphic-communications industry.
"The number of PGSF scholarships reflects well on the quality of our students and reputation of our programs," said Dr. Daniel G. Wilson, associate professor of printing and publishing at Penn College. "I know that these are very competitive scholarships. The WOA scholarship is particularly competitive, and Karin is the first student in the history of our program to receive it."
