Tuesday, September 26, 2000
Business representatives can learn more about subsidized and/or free employee-training opportunities offered at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Technology Transfer Center by attending an Open House scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the relocated facility.
Housed in the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce's Business and Technology Resource Center at 2401 Reach Road, Williamsport, the TTC provides a variety of training options for business and industry.
From 4 to 7 p.m., TTC staff will be available to discuss details of initiatives such as the Guaranteed Free Training Program offered through WEDnetPA (Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania); PAWin (Pennsylvania Workforce Improvement Network); Customized Job Training; the Ben Franklin Partnerships; and pending programs focusing on information-technology instruction.
"The wide variety of funding opportunities, and the areas in which companies can receive assistance with training and projects, represent a tremendous benefit to business and industry in our geographic region," said Candace S. Baran, project manager for the TTC. "The Open House presents an excellent opportunity for those firms to learn more about the programs offered here."
The Guaranteed Free Training Program from WEDnetPA is available to new employees of expanding in-state businesses or relocating out-of-state companies, with up to $450 in funding available per employee. PAWin provides foundation-skills training to employees, enabling them to become better motivated and to work more effectively with supervisors and co-workers. Customized Job Training is available for manufacturing, industrial, agricultural, research-and-development, advanced technology, and service firms.
Ben Franklin Partnerships are available to companies requiring additional resources and expertise for technically oriented projects. Pending technology-training initiatives will offer significant funding for instruction in e-business and commerce, technology support, network administration, information security, database development, Web site design and development, software engineering and computer programming, among other areas.
The TTC also is planning the launch of an E-Business Resource Center, which will provide students and companies with the training and skills necessary to conduct business effectively on the Internet.
