Pennsylvania College of Technology ranks among the leaders in four categories in a national survey of "100 Top Associate's Degree Producers" conducted by "Community College Week" newspaper.
In the survey, which was based on degrees conferred during the 1997-98 academic year, Penn College ranked third in the number of degrees awarded among four-year institutions in the category related to Culinary and Hospitality majors.
Penn College ranked 12th among four-year institutions in the "Engineering-Related Technologies" category and 20th among four-year institutions in the "Precision Production Trades" category.
In addition, the College ranked ninth among four-year institutions in the "Non-Minority Graduates − All Disciplines" category.
"We are pleased to find ourselves favorably ranked among the nation's associate-degree providers," said Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour. "As higher education continues to evolve, we have become one of the leaders among a new type of college − one that offers both bachelor's and associate's degrees, but confers more degrees at the associate level. We believe this positions us very well to serve students and workforce-development needs in our local community and across Pennsylvania and the nation."
Penn College's bachelor- and associate-degree and certificate offerings represent more than 100 career areas.
The "Community College Week" survey was based on degree-conferral statistics collected by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.
