Pennsylvania College of Technology has honored Dr. Kirk M. Cantor, associate professor of plastics and polymer technology, with an Excellence in Teaching Award.
The award is presented to a full-time faculty member who has been nominated by students and colleagues for excellence in instructional performance. Dr. Cantor received the award at commencement exercises held Friday, Aug. 11, at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport.
Dr. Cantor came to the College in 1990 as an instructor, and was promoted to associate professor in 1998. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. His master's degree and doctorate are from The Pennsylvania State University, the latter conferred in 1998.
Some selected comments from his nominating documentation include:
- "In all of the classes, he has always striven to push us, and to get quality work."
- "He has set a standard for the department by using Web-based teaching style and multimedia visualization of concepts that are otherwise hard for students to learn."
- "No matter how busy he is, he always has time to stop, or talk or answer questions."
Student awards also were bestowed at the ceremonies. More than 120 students petitioned to graduate in the August commencement exercises.
