Phi Beta Lambda Students Shine at State Leadership Conference

Three students from Pennsylvania College of Technology placed in the top three in their respective categories in the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference competition held in State College from March 31 to April 2.
The eight-student Penn College contingent competed against approximately 130 students from 16 other Pennsylvania colleges, according to Dennis R. Williams, associate professor of business administration and the faculty adviser for Penn College's Phi Beta Lambda chapter.
Phi Beta Lambda is the postsecondary division of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, a national nonprofit educational association of students preparing for careers in business or business-related fields.
First-place finishers are eligible to compete in the national Phi Beta Lambda competition, to be held in Long Beach, Calif., on July 13-16. If the first-place winner opts not to compete, the second- or third-place winners are given that opportunity.
Penn College had one first-place finisher: Justin G. Treher, Chambersburg, who competed in the "Computer Concepts" category.
Danielle N. Caccia, Mildred, took second place in the "Business Communication" category.
Jackie R. Schriner, Ulster, finished third in the "Job Interviewing" category.
"These are truly motivated students," Williams said of the Penn College competitors.
Williams said the chapter will raise funds for the trio until the end of the semester in hopes of sending all three to the national Phi Beta Lambda conference.
In addition, a student from the Penn College Phi Beta Lambda chapter was elected treasurer for the Pennsylvania state Phi Beta Lambda chapter.
In that position, Diana J. Shoemaker, Millmont, will deal with balances exceeding $30,000 and perform all of the duties that a treasurer for any small business would, Williams said.
