Penn College 'Pride Ride' Benefits Scholarship Fund, Motorsports Association
Friday, March 31, 2000
Two National Football League players, including Williamsport's own Gary Brown, are tentatively scheduled to participate in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Second Annual Scholarship "Pride Ride" on Sunday, May 7.
In the rain-or-shine event, motorcyclists will wind their way through the scenic Northcentral Pennsylvania countryside, with proceeds benefiting the Penn College Student Scholarship Fund and the Penn College Motorsports Association. Brown and Irving Fryar will participate in the ride, if their training schedules permit.
Registration on the day of the event will be from 9 to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the Carl Building Technologies Center. The entry fee is $15.
Riders will receive free coffee and doughnuts during registration; an ox roast and side dishes prepared by Penn College Food Services, beginning at 1 p.m.; a free T-shirt (for pre-registered riders); route sheets, entertainment and a chance to win door prizes.
The event is open to the public; tickets to the ox roast lunch only are $6.
A motorcycle-judging contest will be held after lunch. Categories will include Classic, Dresser, Cruiser, Trike and British Bike. Voting is open to all, at a cost of a nickel per vote. The winners in each category will receive a plaque. All voting proceeds will go to the Student Scholarship Fund.
Last year's ride raised $950 for the Student Scholarship Fund and the Motorsports Association at Penn College.
Overnight accommodations for the ride may be made at the Holiday Inn. To receive a special room rate (available until April 22), mention code 2 PEN when calling (570) 326-1981.
