A Pennsylvania College of Technology physician assistant student has been selected as the first recipient of a national scholarship from the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology.
Dan Gray, Danville, a senior in the College's B.S. degree physician assistant major, was presented $2,500 to be applied toward tuition, books or other expenses. He received the award at the 27th Annual Conference of Physician Assistants, held recently in Atlanta.
Gray was selected for the honor from among 30 other national candidates. In addition to academic performance, a factor taken into consideration for the scholarship is an interest in pursuing a career in oncology. Gray's work and volunteer background also were considered. He has worked as an X-ray technician, been active with Ronald McDonald House, and has taken part in youth camps for children with cancer.
Monies for the scholarship were provided by Genetics Institute, Cambridge, Mass. With additional contributions from the institute, the scholarship will be awarded by the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology for four more years.
The Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology is a constituent chapter of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Also participating in the scholarship initiative is the Physician Assistant Foundation, with headquarters in Alexandria, Va.
