Travel & Tourism, Financial Planning Join Business Options at Penn College
Friday, June 5, 1998
Pennsylvania College of Technology is introducing new educational options focused on travel and tourism and financial planning for Fall 1998.
A travel and tourism emphasis is being added to the business management Associate of Applied Science degree. The emphasis provides students with a well-rounded curriculum in travel and tourism while preparing them to assume various management positions in the tourism industry.
Students will take specialized courses in tourism, reservations and ticketing, group tours, tourism management, accounting, business law, and marketing, along with regular business courses. Graduates may obtain entry- or management-level positions with airlines, corporate travel centers, cruise ships, tourist attractions, travel agencies, and tourist offices. The major also can serve as a starting point for earning the Certified Travel Counselor credential.
In addition, students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree major now have the opportunity to declare a financial planning minor. Nondegree students may enroll in a similar competency credential.
The financial planning minor or competency credential presents the courses required to sit for the Certified Financial Planning certification examination, administered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in Denver.
The CFP credential is the most widely recognized financial planning credential among consumers. Services provided by CFP licensees include planning for children's education, implementing strategies to reduce income and estate taxes, and investing funds for retirement.
