Laura A. Snyder, of Harrisburg, a May graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s landscape/plant production technology major, has attained Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist status after passing the formal exam required for certification.

“I am proud of earning the recognition as a Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist,” Snyder said. “Achieving this acknowledgment from the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association was no easy task, but I felt fully prepared for the exam after my two years of study at Penn College. I look forward to using my skills as I develop my career in the landscape industry.”

The PCH exam was administered on the last day of finals in early May by Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture at Penn College. Snyder passed all four sections of the intensive test.

“The PCH certification is certainly a high honor for Laura,” Bower said. “It is a tough exam, on which you need to score an 80% or more to achieve (certification). It demonstrates her commitment to our industry and confirms her knowledge of the field.”

The PCH program offers a formal way for landscape or nursery professionals to test their knowledge and gain professional credibility. It recognizes those who have demonstrated a high level of competence in the profession.

“Since graduation, I have been working for Hummel’s Landscape Inc., a highly respected landscape business based in the Harrisburg area,” Snyder shared. “They provide premier landscape services to create dynamic outdoor living spaces for their customers. I have already learned a great deal while working with the team and hope to continue contributing to their highly professional organization.”
