Students utilize the new Flexible Space located in a separate room near the college's Fitness Center.

A new fitness area is available to Pennsylvania College of Technology students – the Flexible Space. Located in the Fitness Center on the third floor of Bush Campus Center, the Flexible Space is a separate room for doing sit-ups, stretches or light weightlifting.

“The idea stemmed from not having a comfortable place to do sit-ups without interfering with the flow of traffic in the Fitness Center,” said Gayle M. Kielwein, coordinator of student engagement operations. “From there, it expanded to a place for light workouts such as yoga or light weightlifting (up to 15 lbs.) and a place for those just starting out and maybe not feeling comfortable going into the larger weight rooms.”

A grand opening for the new space was held Feb. 14, with more than 65 attendees. Kielwein reports that a ribbon-cutting ceremony "received a round of applause and cheers." Smoothies, made by Penn College Dining Services, were served, along with heart-healthy snacks, including fruit, protein bars, flavored rice cakes, popcorn and dark chocolate. The first 50 guests scored giveways, and 10 lucky visitors won Amazon gift cards.

The Fitness Center, open seven days of the week, features weight rooms (machine and free weights), a cardio room, sauna and full locker room facilities.
