Two sections of the Technical Drawing-Related Disciplines class, consisting of 23 students, recently toured High Steel Structures LLC in Williamsport. The company is one of the largest steel fabricators in North America.

“The purpose of this tour was to show a real-world example of structural fabrication and design as this directly relates to the course which is required in the engineering CAD technology and engineering design technology majors,” said Katherine A. Walker, assistant professor of engineering design technology.

Walker, along with Kendra N. Tomassacci, instructor of engineering design technology, accompanied the students.

Penn College alumnus Adam Steppe, an industrial engineer at High Steel, and Ben Lakis, plant superintendent, led the tour.

“We are very fortunate that our local employers provide opportunities to visit their facilities. It is very beneficial for students to connect their classroom experience to real-world applications,” Walker said.
