Penn College wrestlers have good showing

Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers had another good outing on Saturday while the men’s and women’s basketball teams competed in weekend events.

WRESTLING
Penn College’s 23rd-ranked wrestling team placed seventh in an 18-team field that included four other nationally ranked Division III tournament teams and had an individual second- and third-place finisher at the Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Isaac Cory, of Montoursville, ranked fourth in D-III at 184 pounds and seeded No. 1 at his weight in the tournament, ended his day with a 3-1 record and finished second after he forfeited his championship match against second-seeded NYU’s Trent Furman, while Noah Hunt, of Muncy, seeded fourth at 141, went 4-1 on the day (losing only to top-seeded Xavier Pena, of Centenary, who went on to claim the title) and placed third.

Coast Guard, ranked No. 9, took the team title with 162.5 points and was followed by Springfield, 117.5; Wilkes 109; 17th-ranked Williams, 92; Delaware Valley, 88.5; 15th-ranked NYU, 87; Penn College, 81; Wesleyan, 79; Centenary, 77; and rounding out the top 10, Trinity, 73.5. Also in the field was 19th-ranked Southern Maine, which finished 14th with 46.5 points.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
At first-time opponent William Patterson on Wednesday, Penn College dropped an 86-62 decision after leading 22-11 in the first half before being outscored 55-28 in the second half. Gavin Barrett, of Roselle, New Jersey, led the Wildcats with 12 points.

Over the weekend at the Bridgewater (Va.) Invitational, Penn College lost to the host team on Saturday, 110-79, and lost to Eastern Mennonite University, 95-66, on Sunday.

Against Bridgewater, Livingston Cross, of Union, New Jersey, scored a team-best 29 points and added 11 rebounds. The 29-point effort also was his Wildcat career high.

Against Eastern Mennonite, Barrett scored 18 points and Michael Woolridge, of Hollidaysburg, added 14 points. Cross topped the team with nine rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
At the Susquehanna Tournament over the weekend, the Wildcats dropped a 54-35 decision to the host team on Saturday and fell 43-38 in Sunday’s consolation against St. Elizabeth.

Against Susquehanna, Rachel Teats, of Middleburg, led the Penn College offense with eight points and Lexi Troup, of Huntingdon, topped the team with 10 rebounds.

Against St. Elizabeth, the Wildcats fought back from a 25-11 halftime deficit and closed to within two points at 38-36 with 3:57 remaining in the game before losing by five. Emily Pardee, of Williamsport, led the offense with 12 points.
