"We did a whole debriefing just to prepare everybody, to know where everyone is and what equipment we need to use," Morgan told Keating. "We have protocols and procedures that have been practiced in case something were to happen to a player or an umpire."

Paramedic students, and their work helping to provide emergency care to spectators at the nearby Little League Baseball World Series, were featured during WNEP’s evening newscasts on Monday.

The ABC affiliate’s Chris Keating interviewed students Kiley G. Morgan, of Annville, and Ashley M. Shamblen, of Milton. Both are majoring in paramedic science. Morgan is additionally pursuing a bachelor’s degree in emergency management & homeland security.

They are among 10 Penn College paramedic students helping to provide emergency medical services under the guidance of professionals from UPMC and Susquehanna Regional Emergency Medical Services.

"Getting the actual patient interactions is really important for our learning. We are studying medicine, but now we get to practice the actual medicine, the hands-on aspect, getting to interact with people and the bedside manner, and that is really important in our field," Shamblen said. "We are prepared for what comes through the door."
