BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 has joined with Pennsylvania College of Technology to offer a community documentary screening of “A Shot in the Dark” – a story about Anthony Ferraro, a blind high school wrestler who attempts to defy the odds and win a New Jersey state championship.

The screening, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, is sponsored by the Deaf-Blind Resource Team of IU 17 and is provided to the community at no cost. The event will be held in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium on the Penn College campus, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Following the film, Ferraro will be part of a question-and-answer session, sharing with the audience his story of self-advocacy and perseverance.

"A Shot in the Dark"Ferraro was born blind with a genetic condition known as Leber Congenital Amaurosis. A wrestler in high school, he is now training in judo for the Paralympic Games, set for Paris in 2024. Along with being an athlete, Ferraro plays music, skateboards and speaks nationwide, spreading his message of ‘one love!’ In addition, he shares his incredible journey with more than 1.2 million followers across multiple social media platforms as @asfvision.

“We are thrilled that our community will have the opportunity to view the film and hear Anthony’s story to bring more awareness regarding the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in all aspects of life, including sports,” said Dawn M. Dickey, director of disability and access resources at Penn College.

Jeff Pelly, BLaST IU 17’s educational consultant, said: “Anthony’s incredible journey resonates with anyone who has come across his story. We’re proud to partner with Penn College, as we know our community will be inspired by this positive film. We appreciate the generous donation from the Deaf-Blind Resource Team at IU 17 that has helped bring Mr. Ferraro to Williamsport.”

Registration is encouraged but not required.
