Monday, October 17, 2016
The first Pennsylvania regional juried show by the international Studio Art Quilt Associates will take place Oct. 22 through Dec. 8 at The Gallery at Penn College.
Titled “Connected by Stitch,” the exhibit includes fiber-based artwork by 35 artists who are all current Pennsylvania members of SAQA and those that have chosen Pennsylvania as their second region. They were invited to submit work for this exhibition.
An opening reception is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, featuring a 3 p.m. gallery talk. The reception and exhibit are open to the public and free of charge. The gallery is on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Madigan Library.
The juried exhibition showcases a wide range of 2-D and 3-D fiber art and highlights the diverse styles and techniques of a medium that prioritizes aesthetic value over utility.
Artists in the show are: Donna Albert, Meredith Eachus Armstrong, Polly Bech, Elizabeth Bennett, Barbara Blanchard, Eliza Brewster, Martha Bryans, Anna Chupa, Carolyn Cohen, Elizabeth Danish, Rachel Derstine, Jean Downing, M. Camille Eaton Romig, Susan Faeder, Frances Frederick, Cynthia Friedman, Dorothy Gerring, Meredith Re Grimsley, Stacy Hortner, Peggy Hracho, Patricia Kennedy-Zafred, Susan Leonard, Eleanor Levie, Kate Means, Sara Mika, Sue Reno, Martha Ressler, Barbara Schulman, Mary Schwarzenberger, Cathleen Stechschulte, Elena Stokes, Kim Svoboda, Paula Swett, Sharon Wall and Bern Yates.
The artwork was juried by Joshua R. Willis, a mixed-media artist based in New Mexico. His work integrates materials such as textiles, metal, paint and wood. The show was curated by SAQA Pennsylvania Regional Representative Meredith Eachus Armstrong.

The Gallery at Penn College is open 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays; 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. The gallery will be closed Nov. 23-27.
