Penn College Wrestlers Split, Basketball Teams Fall

The Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling team split in its two matches over the past week while the men's and women's basketball teams tasted defeat the men twice and the women once and both of Saturday's scheduled basketball games were postponed due to snow.

Flashback WrestlingOn Friday, the Wildcats hiked their win streak to five with a 41-9 win over Penn State Fayette to improve to 5-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Kyle Sunseri, of Athens, in the 141-pound weight class, and Derek Leiby, of Troy, at 149, both recorded pins while Logan Gresock, of Wadsworth, Ohio, won on a technical fall at 174.

Hosting Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology on Sunday, Penn College was edged, 30-24. Sunseri, at 141, and Leiby, at 149, again recorded falls for the Wildcats as they went to 6-3 overall.

Men's BasketballOn Monday at Arcadia University, Scott Fenton, of Dickson City, tied his personal season high of 24 points to lead the Wildcats in an 84-41 loss. Penn College, without several starters due to injury, trailed 45-13 at the half and couldn't recover. Colton Acorn, of Wellsboro, added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

At Penn State Scranton on Wednesday, a good-shooting first half saw the Wildcats hold an eight-point, 40-32, lead at the 16-minute mark, but they lost their momentum in the second half and fell, 67-46. Fenton led Penn College with 17 points and Acorn added 16.

Women's Basketball On the road at Penn State Scranton on Wednesday, Dana Reed, of Sunbury, and Kierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, each scored 18 points and Bryanna Valentine, of Mifflinburg, added 15 in her collegiate debut, but Penn College lost, 74-69. The Wildcats led the entire first half and took a 35-33 halftime lead before foul trouble sent Scranton to the line allowing the Lions to go on to victory.

On the Horizon ArcheryWith eight returning lettermen from last year's national collegiate runner-up squad and a new head coach in Brian Parker, the Wildcat archers open their season at 5 p.m. Friday at the Bloomsburg Early Bird Sports Expo.
