Wednesday, February 21, 2007
The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host the Timothy Hawkesworth exhibit "Paintings and Drawings" from Feb. 27 to April 1.
A reception for the exhibit will take place from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, with an artist's talk at 5:30. Regular gallery hours for the show are Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
Hawkesworth grew up in Ireland and has been showing his work for more than three decades in New York, Los Angeles and Dublin, Ireland.
His largely abstract works can be described as energetic and inspirational, layered with both material and meaning. They are part of collections in Ireland and the United States, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Brooklyn Museum. He has received several awards for his work, many in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
"Viewing his work is an experience in itself, and The Gallery at Penn College offers an ideal space for such an encounter," said Penny G. Lutz, Madigan Library gallery assistant.
Hawkesworth has been teaching since 1991 and currently conducts workshops at Bennington College with Art New England, at The Armory in West Palm Beach, Fla., at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and at the Norristown Arts Building.
He earned a master of fine arts degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston, as well as an art diploma from University College and a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Trinity College, both in Dublin.
