College Gallery Hosting City Native's Photo Exhibit

Rolfe Ross' works include this 8-inch-by-12-inch photo, entitled 'Breadman.'The Gallery at Penn College on the main campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology will host "cuba . . . on the street," a collection of photographs by Rolfe Ross, from April 1-29.

The gallery will offer viewing hours from 6 to 8 p.m. April 1 in conjunction with Williamsport's First Friday event. An opening reception will take place Tuesday, April 5, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., with an artist?s talk scheduled at 4 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

After the opening, viewing hours for the show will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m., or by appointment. The Gallery at Penn College is in Room 202 of the Bush Campus Center.

Ross is a 1952 graduate of Williamsport High School and a largely self-taught photographer. His main interests are social documentary and street photography, primarily done in black and white.

"I am driven to make photography by my endless curiosity about the human condition," Ross said. "Whether I find subjects in their environment or on the street, I want my images to answer some questions and raise others."

He has studied with Mary Ellen Mark, Alex Webb, Antonin Kratochvil, Eugene Richards, Larry Fink, Constantine Manos and Elizabeth Opalenik. Ross' work has been shown in many galleries and shows in the Northeast, as well as in Florida.
