Tuesday, November 16, 2004
Tara L. Martin, athird-year Dental Hygiene-Health Policy and Administration major from Bressler (Dauphin County), has been chosen as the Student Government Association's "Student of the Month" for November.
Nominated by a faculty member for her continuing academic achievement and for generously helping other students achieve their goals Martin was characterized asthe "unofficial and unpaid" tutor for Human Anatomy and Physiology. Carrying a 4.0 grade-point average in a demanding major, she still found time to organize study sessions in the College Library.
"This wasn't just a case of earning good grades on the tests," her nominator wrote of Martin's virtual habitation of the A&P lab. "She worked hard to learn the material well enough to teach it to others. There are a fair number of students in their Health Sciences programs who wouldn't be there if not for Tara Martin."
Martin's generosity is especially unusual because she was helping the competition, the professor added, actually reducing her own chances of getting into the Dental Hygiene Program by aiding her peers.
