Q&A with Miranda

WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT A CAREER IN NURSING WAS FOR YOU?

I spent my early years in Pakistan where I saw the downfalls of a struggling healthcare system. This made the importance of nurses and other professionals very clear to me. Then, while living in Philadelphia, I worked at an urgent care center where I saw the nurse practitioners treat patients coming in with various types of medical problems. I asked the NPs about the pathway of becoming a nurse practitioner. After further consideration, I realized that nursing might be the better fit for me since I like to be more hands-on with the patient. Later down the line, I would like to pursue a career as a NP.

WHAT FACTORS WENT INTO CHOOSING PENN COLLEGE?

I was attracted to Penn College because of the small class and lab sizes. In this environment, I knew I would get more time with my professor when I needed help. I also liked the hands-on approach to learning.

HOW DID YOU FIND PENN COLLEGE?

I found Penn College by searching for combined BS/MS PA programs. Penn College was one of the universities that came up. I originally came to Penn College for the PA program, but later realized nursing might be the better fit for me since you get to learn the cool medical stuff in your second semester of attending the school.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE NURSING PROGRAM?

The same things that attracted me to Penn College are what I like most about the nursing program. That's the small class sizes and hands-on nature of the program. I also like how we have access to the nursing building after hours and get one-on-one guidance from the lab coordinators.

IF SOMEONE WERE CONSIDERING PENN COLLEGE FOR NURSING, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM?

I would tell them that Penn College is a small school where you are most likely to succeed due to smaller class sizes, professional relationships with the professors, and one-on-one guidance to help you pass your classes. We have a nursing lab where you can go any hour of the day to practice your skills just with the swipe of your student ID.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE AS A NURSE?

I hope to learn the skills of a nurse to help people get better in Pakistan, especially where I grew up. There are not many medical facilities close by where I grew up, so I would like to put my skills to use one day in case there is a medical emergency when I visit Pakistan.
