According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE): Act 48 of 1999 requires persons holding Pennsylvania professional educator certification to complete continuing education requirements every five years to maintain their certificate status as active whether employed or not.

We recognize that some of our employees and campus visitors may be professional educators with an active Pennsylvania Department of Education certificate status and may be interested in Act 48 credit for their professional development activities attended here on campus.

As such, the College offers the following services for Local Education Agency (LEA)/School District employees and Penn College employees.

Local Education Agency/School District

Penn College is not approved to submit PDE Act 48 credit on your behalf. You can request documentation of your professional development attendance to submit to your home LEA/school district.

If you are visiting our campus to take part in professional development and would like to submit your participation here for Act 48 credit:

  • Contact the host of the session or event that you are attending
  • Inform them of your intent to submit your attendance to your local LEA/School District for approval. Please note that while we offer verification of attendance, some LEA’s/School Districts can opt to not accept third party professional development credit.
  • Penn College will provide you with a Participant Act 48 Non-Credit Hours Submission form for you to fill out and submit directly to your local LEA.
