Q&A with Outdoor Illumination & Irrigation Management
HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?
We noticed that one of our strategic partners had recently hired a graduate of Penn College. After checking Penn College's website, we realized they were a perfect match for us, producing students we would like to hire.
WHAT QUALITIES OF PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS MAKE THEM STAND OUT FOR YOUR OPERATIONS?
Penn College offers hands-on experience. We consider this a major benefit and, when combined with classroom learning, prepares students to think critically. These well-rounded applicants are who we prefer to hire.
WHAT ASPECTS OF YOUR COMPANY ATTRACT OUR STUDENTS AND FUTURE STUDENTS TO JOIN YOUR OPERATION?
Almost all of our associates begin work in the field. We prefer to promote from within, so having a working knowledge of our trade allows employees to have a career path. We also promote a healthy work/life balance. Employees who have time to relax and enjoy their time off tend to perform at a higher level when at work.
WHAT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS TO BEST PREPARE THEM TO JOIN YOUR TEAM?
My best advice is to do your research and prepare. This goes for any firm you are considering. Check out the website, ask lots of questions, and think about short- and long-term goals. These goals should not only be professional, but personal goals. Do you think we can help you attain these goals? Ideally, where would you like to see yourself in 1-5 years? Having goals and a plan, even though they may not always work out as you think, will give you something to work towards.
