Q&A with Good's Tree and Lawn Care

WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE INDUSTRY YOU SERVE?

The science of arboriculture and turf care are relatively young. We get excited about being on the front lines of this industry, finding solutions to novel problems such as invasive pest and disease issues, and educating our clients and our community about what we are seeing out there and how we can help.

WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT YOUR COMPANY'S CULTURE/MISSION?

I appreciate that we have a strong safety culture. We conform to ANSI Z133 Safety Standards including rules and regulations surrounding pesticide use and all things OSHA, not out of compliance, but because it is our priority that all of our employees go home safe and healthy at the end of each work day.

HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?

Although our connection to Penn College has grown over the last decade through recruiting efforts, we have been staffed by graduates of the program since the days of Williamsport Area Community College.

WHY DO YOU BELIEVE PENN COLLEGE IS A SOUND INVESTMENT? WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RETURN?

Penn College has a fantastic academic program for developing forestry and horticulture professionals. Our return on the investment has been great staff. Currently we have grads working in management, sales, tree climbing, and plant health care.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU VALUE MOST WHEN RECRUITING PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ALUMNI?

We value the intellectual curiosity and ambition of Penn College students. College can be expensive. Students that recognize the value in academic training pertaining to forestry and horticulture demonstrate their commitment to the field and there ability to take on challenges and succeed.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING PENN COLLEGE?

Penn College is a leader in Pennsylvania for developing qualified professionals in forestry and horticulture. But college is what you make of it and the degree outcomes depend on what you put in to it. Take advantage of the short time you have with professors, and choose your internships carefully. Develop your skills AND your professional network. You will require both in an ever increasing competitive job market.
