Q&A with GEO Reentry Services

WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE INDUSTRY YOU SERVE?

Being able to observe the changes our participants are implementing on a daily basis is what we find most exciting about working in this field. These people put a lot of effort into finding employment, staying sober, attending cognitive behavioral groups, and successfully completing the program. We know that we are accomplishing our goals when participants leave our programming and go on to live their new lives. We also know that we have done this by giving them the resources they need to keep working towards a better future for themselves.

WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT YOUR COMPANY'S CULTURE/MISSION?

At GEO Reentry Services, we strive to ensure that anyone participating in our services receives the best individualized success plan as they reintegrate back into the community. Being inclusive of diverse backgrounds and utilizing our "What Works" method allows us to not only work towards our overarching goal of reducing recidivism, but assist those in gaining valuable skills and resources they need the most to be successful.

HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?

GEO Reentry Services first connected with Penn College through offering a paid internship to future graduates. GEO has had success with not only engaging with Penn College students enrolled in the Human Services and Restorative Justice program, but the opportunity to hire full time staff members at our facility post-graduation.

WHY DO YOU BELIEVE PENN COLLEGE IS A SOUND INVESTMENT? WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RETURN?

We believe that Penn College is a sound investment in recruiting and hiring graduates because of the emphasis on hands-on learning. Penn College's approach to hands-on, practical, fieldwork experience, both in and out of the classroom, can be reflected into the skills presented in those graduating from their college programming.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU VALUE MOST WHEN RECRUITING PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS & ALUMNI?

The qualities valued most from recruiting Penn College students and alumni are those who are determined and dedicated to helping others make the changes they need the most. Other qualities include being goal-driven and time-oriented, with problem-solving skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and a strong sense of ethical conduct.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING PENN COLLEGE?

If you're a high school student contemplating Penn College, here's some valuable advice to consider. First and foremost, research your intended major thoroughly to ensure it aligns with your interests and career goals. Penn College offers a diverse range of programs, so finding the right fit is crucial.

Next, explore the campus and its resources; familiarize yourself with professors, academic support services, and extracurricular activities. Additionally, don't hesitate to seek financial aid options, scholarships, or work-study opportunities to ease the financial burden.

Finally, embrace the college experience beyond academics – make connections, engage in internships or co-op programs, and remember that personal growth and networking are as important as classroom learning. Penn College can provide a solid foundation for your future, so make the most of your time there by being proactive and passionate about your education and career aspirations.
