Ceremony FAQs

Only students who are registered to participate in commencement and ticketed guests will be permitted to enter the event.

Graduate check-in is at the Genetti Hotel, 200 W. 4th Street, Williamsport, PA

Check-in for graduates begins at the Genetti one hour prior to the start of each ceremony. Ticketed guests may arrive at the Community Arts Center 1 hour prior to ceremony start.

Students will receive an email with more details about ticket numbers and pickup prior to the ceremony.

At check-in, graduates will pick up a marching card. Marching cards should be kept with graduates at all times, and presented during the procession to the stage.

Graduates should remain in the designated area for lineup, which will be guided by PCT staff.

Procession to the ceremony will begin immediately following line up.

Penn College staff will guide graduates through seating, procession to the stage, and dismissal during the ceremony.

When guided to the stage to receive your diploma, graduates will present their marching card for their name to be announced.

Penn College President will present a diploma cover, at which time graduates should pause for a photo.

Upon exiting the stage, graduates will pause for a second photo, and then be directed back to their seats.

Following the commencement ceremony, the Registrar’s Office will complete a final audit of all students’ grades. Diplomas will be mailed to all students who satisfy graduation requirements; graduates can expect to receive their Penn College diploma within one month of commencement.

Graduate Check-in

Graduating students must report to the Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, 200 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, one hour prior to the start of their graduation ceremony. Ticketed guests may arrive at the Community Arts Center 1 hour prior to ceremony start. See Ceremony FAQs above for more Information regarding check-in.

Appropriate Attire

All candidates for graduation must dress in the caps and gowns of their certificate or degree over appropriate dress clothing. Dresses, skirts, and long slacks are appropriate; shorts and jeans are not. Due to the slope of the auditorium aisles and the polished stage floor, which may be slippery, both men and women should wear hard-soled dress shoes.

Caps, Gowns, & Graduation Announcements

Commencement attire, custom graduation announcements, and diploma frames may be purchased at the College Store or online at penncollegebooks.com. Students ordering items for graduation online should allow time for order processing and mailing. Check with the College Store staff about ordering class rings.

Military Recognition Cords

If you are a veteran of the armed forces, on active duty, or on active drilling status, and you are marching at graduation, you can choose to be recognized by wearing a red, white, and blue cord at graduation. Cords are available to all military personnel with an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A DD-214 must be on file to receive your cord. Please contact the Coordinator of Veteran & Military Services at 570.320.5353 or email vetmilrc@pct.edu to verify your eligibility or to find out how to submit your DD-214. Cords will be given to eligible graduates upon check-in the day of graduation.

Commencement Photos & Video

To help preserve the memory of commencement, Island Photography will photograph all graduates on stage when greeted by Penn College's President and again after exiting the stage.

Within 48-72 hours, graduates will receive an email (to their Penn College email account) with color proofs attached and instructions for accessing and ordering photos from Island Photography. A few days later, graduates also will receive complimentary color proofs and an order form by U.S. mail. These color proofs will be mailed to the graduate’s permanent home address listed on SIS.

There is absolutely no obligation to purchase photos. Please direct all inquiries about photos or orders to Island Photography at 800.869.0908.

A video recording of the commencement ceremony will be posted on the College's website approximately two weeks after the ceremony. An email notification will be sent to all graduates with instructions for accessing the video.

Find picture-perfect locations to celebrate with photos and videos at these popular on-campus locations. Then tag them with #PennCollege on Instagram, TikTok or your favorite social media platform to share your shots.

Downtown Parking

There is metered street parking, parking lots, and parking garages throughout the City of Williamsport.

Accessibility & Accommodations

We are committed to providing an accessible event for all graduates and guests. Captioning will be provided for each ceremony through your own personal device. If you anticipate needing a sign language interpreter, seating for a wheelchair/walker or any other accommodations, please contact the Registrar's Office at registrar@pct.edu by May 9.

Final Audit

Participation in graduation exercises is not, in itself, evidence of satisfactorily completing a program of study. Each student marching at commencement remains a candidate until his/her academic record has been given a final audit. A diploma from Pennsylvania College of Technology, signed and sealed by its proper officer, remains the official testament to possession of a degree.
