Course Substitutions
Any deviations from the major-specified courses must be documented in the Registrar's Office by an "Approved Course Substitution/Equivalency Request" or other official documentation. To avoid scheduling difficulty and future graduation problems, this documentation should be submitted prior to the student registering for the substitute course at Penn College or at another institution. Students can request a course substitution/equivalency through their academic school office. Please check the Transfer Course Equivalency Search before requesting a course substitution for an external transfer course.
Degree-Specific Graduation Requirements
To successfully earn a degree/certificate from Penn College, students are expected to satisfy the degree-specific requirements* as denoted in this table:
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Only courses numbered 500 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements for a post-master's certificate.)
- Complete a minimum of 15 graduate-level credits at Penn College.
- Earn at least a 2.00 graduation GPA and at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA in all major courses. More on GPAs
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Only courses numbered 500 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements for a master of science degree.)
- Complete 30 graduate-level credits at Penn College.
- Earn at least a 2.00 graduation GPA and at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA in all major courses. More on GPAs
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Only courses numbered 500 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements for a master of science degree, only courses numbered 100 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements for a bachelor of science degree.)
- Complete 30 graduate-level credits at Penn College.
- Earn at least a 2.00 graduation GPA and at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA in all major courses. More on GPAs
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Only courses numbered 100 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements.)
- Complete 36 credits at Penn College for course work prescribed in the final four semesters of a student's profile (including any summer course work required within or after the final four semesters).
- Complete a minimum of 48 credits at the 300/400 level.
- Earn at least a 2.00 graduation GPA and at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA in all major courses. More on GPAs
- Satisfy all core requirements for bachelor-degree majors.
- If multiple bachelor's degrees have been declared, meet all requirements of additional degrees, including completion of at least 30 credits of non-duplicated courses that are not part of the first degree. See Dual Degrees for details.
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Only courses numbered 100 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements.)
- Complete 36 credits at Penn College for course work prescribed in the final four semesters of a student's profile (including any summer course work required within or after the final four semesters).
- Complete a minimum of 24 credits at the 300/400 level.
- Earn at least a 2.00 graduation GPA and at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA in all major courses. More on GPAs
- Satisfy all core requirements for bachelor-degree majors.
- If multiple bachelor's degrees have been declared, meet all requirements of additional degrees, including completion of at least 30 credits of non-duplicated courses that are not part of the first degree. See Dual Degrees for details.
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Only courses numbered 100 and above can be used to satisfy graduation requirements.)
- Complete a minimum of 30 credits at Penn College. At least 18 of the credits completed at Penn College must be for course work prescribed in the final two semesters of a student's profile (including any summer course work required between or after the final two semesters).
- Earn at least a 2.00 graduation GPA and complete all required courses with a D or higher (some majors require grades of C or higher). More on GPAs
- Satisfy all core requirements for associate-degree majors.
- If multiple associate' degrees have been declared, meet all requirements of additional degrees, including completion of at least 15 credits of non-duplicated courses that are not part of the first degree. See Dual Degrees for details.
- Complete course requirements as defined within the major. (Courses numbered 001-009 cannot be used to satisfy graduation requirements.)
- Complete at least half of the required credits, including the last semester as prescribed on the student's profile, at Penn College. This includes credits received for credit by examination or work/life experience.
- Earn at least a 'C' average in all courses required by the major (2.0 graduation GPA). More on GPAs
- Satisfy all core requirements for Certificate majors.
- If multiple certificate majors have been declared, meet all requirements of additional programs, including completion of at least 15 credits of major-specific courses that are not part of the primary major. See Dual Degrees for details.
Unfulfilled Credit Requirements
Bachelor/associate/certificate majors only
A student who has not completed all of the coursework required by their major at the end of the final semester may take courses from another accredited college/institution, providing that all other requirements are met, including the minimum Penn College credits stipulated above. Such work must be completed within two years after the last semester in which the student attended classes at Penn College. After two years, the student must re-enroll. Graduating with Multiple Degrees or Majors
A student can be enrolled in more than one major and may pursue more than one degree at the same time. The student may petition to graduate with these multiple degrees/majors, providing that they have satisfied the requirements of those degrees/majors. Enrollment in Dual Degrees must follow specified procedures and eligibility requirements. See Dual Degrees for details.
Graduating with Minors
A baccalaureate student may earn up to two minors; successfully completed minors will be indicated on the student’s official transcript.
- Complete course requirements as defined within the minor.
- All coursework applied to a minor must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or higher (no pass/fail work may be applied)
- Complete the required number of credits at the 200 level or higher as set forth in the official College Catalog.
- Students must complete a minimum of 12 minor credits requirements at Penn College.
