Statistics for Health & Behavioral Sciences

MTH159

Introduction of frequently applied statistical methods with an emphasis on applications in the health and behavioral sciences. Topics include graphical summaries, descriptive statistics, linear regression and correlation, elementary probability including risk and odds, the normal distribution, confidence intervals and tests of hypotheses for one and two samples, ANOVA, Chi-square test, and logistic regression. A graphing calculator and/or a statistical software package is used to assist in achieving course outcomes. Students satisfying a quantitative thinking core foundation requirement with MTH 159 cannot also use MTH 157 or MTH 161 to satisfy an additional quantitative thinking core foundation requirement.
