Introduction to Metallurgy

MSC106

Introduction to the science of physical metallurgy. Topics include metal properties, atomic and crystal structure, phase and isothermal transformation, testing material selection, and manufacturing processes. Discussion covers "why" metals exhibit their specific physical properties by employing the core methods of science: observation and measurement, conceptual models, problem solving, and critical evaluation of results of experiments. Emphasis on the application of these scientific principles to modern manufacturing, selection of metals, and service characteristics.
