Advances in dental hygiene are explored for possible incorporation into the dental hygienist's philosophy and practice. Roles and responsibilities of dental hygienists are clarified. Examination of contemporary public health concepts and practice related to oral health. Dental hygienists’ role in advocating for optimal oral health will be emphasized. The importance of inter-professional collaborations in maximizing oral health of the U.S. population, including underserved and other vulnerable populations will be highlighted. Students will explore the related roles of government, non-government agencies, and private organizations. Case studies will be offered to stimulate discussion and deeper understanding of the complexities facing dental public health professionals.

Eligible candidates who submit a copy of their current, valid Dental Hygiene license to the Admissions Office at Penn College, will be credited with 47 credits.
